Thornwood is situated within Kuleni Game Park in the heart of Southern Maputaland and is a neighbour to the famous Phinda Game Reserve and The Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, now a world heritage site. The Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park, known for it's big five, is right on your doorstep as well as a wide variety of activities and interesting sites to visit.
Thornwood offers luxury accommodation for up to eight people in a self-catering, fully serviced, upmarket lodge. A unique blend of luxury timber frame units, fit seamlessly into the surrounding bush. Relax in the spacious lounge, entertainment area, pool, or fire deck without losing the intimacy with nature. Guests will have exclusive use of Thornwood as only one group (booking) is allowed at a time.
With a four star rating you are assured that all the accommodation is of a very high standard. The cost of the accommodation also includes a full time housekeeper for the duration of your stay. In brief, Thornwood consists of a spacious lounge and entertainment area with a decked swimming pool, DSTV, pool table and a study nook. There is a large well-fitted kitchen with all modern day conveniences. The kitchen opens out onto a large fire pit deck, which is perfect for both evening barbecues and fireside chats, canopied by spectacular night skies unique to Africa. Included in the main unit are two full en-suite bedrooms that have outdoor showers and bathtubs that open out to the African bush.
There are also two big bedroom units that are close, but detached from the main building which offer privacy and seclusion. These rooms are made up of a large bedroom, bathroom with outdoor shower and have their own decks coming out under magnificent indigenous trees.
Kuleni Game Park itself offers self-guided walking trails covering a variety of different biospheres with an abundance of bird life and game such as Giraffe, Zebra, Nyala, Wildebeest and Impala. The park is enclosed by an electrified double game fence, offering security to both wildlife and residents. Surrounded by game reserves and the St. Lucia wetlands and within easy reach of beaches and lakes Thornwood can offer an amazing variety of activities – to name a few: scuba diving, snorkeling, day excursions to game reserves, big five game viewing, bush dinners, canoeing, river boat cruises, fishing, horse trails, visits to cultural villages, turtle watching and visiting of The Cheetah and Serval Project. |

Driving directions
From Durban take the N2 freeway, take the Sodwana Bay / Hluhluwe offramp turn right and travel through Hluhluwe Town. Turn left at the fourth/last roundabout towards Sodwana Bay(R22).Turn right onto the new Sodwana Bay road, cross the railway line, after about 16km, you will see the sign for Kuleni Game Park. Turn left onto a small dirt road to the entrance gate and the gate guard will direct you to Thornwood. Click here for a Map
